The Mudtools ‘Bulls Tongue’ is their version of a traditional Japanese throwing tool called a ‘gyobera’ (which translates to cow’s tongue, or bull’s tongue).
The Bulls Tongue is a wonderful tool for the production potter, particularly if they are throwing off the hump. It works equally well on stoneware and porcelain clay bodies. The spooned ‘J’ shape of this tool is useful for shaping the bottom and sides of a bowl while throwing, pulling the walls quickly as well as compressing the bottom.
According to Mudtools, all of their polymer ribs are made of unique materials, that are resistant to wear and the formation of burrs. It has been found that with general use this rib material becomes burnished over time.
